Arizona is strategically positioned along the US-Mexico border with major Air Force, Army, and intelligence installations.

Defense Contractors in Arizona

Arizona contractors work with Davis-Monthan, Luke, and Fort Huachuca in areas including simulation, IT security, logistics, and avionics.

  • Davis-Monthan AFB (Tucson): Home to the 355th Wing and the Air Force's A-10 Warthog fleet. Major contracting in aviation maintenance and logistics.
  • Luke AFB (Glendale): F-16 and F-35 fighter pilot training base. Generates contracts in flight simulation, avionics, and maintenance support.
  • Fort Huachuca (Sierra Vista): US Army intelligence center. Electronic Proving Ground, Army Research Laboratory, and Defense Systems Information Agency. Cybersecurity and IT contracts dominate.
  • Yuma Proving Ground: Army test and evaluation facility. Contracts in simulation technology, vehicle testing, and electronic warfare.

Arizona's MEP Center and State Programs

Arizona MEP connects defense contractors with resources for technology adoption and CMMC readiness.

Arizona MEP and Defense Resources

AZMEP offers NIST-based technology assessments and can help businesses prepare for CMMC compliance requirements.

  • Arizona MEP (AZMEP): Provides manufacturing improvement and cybersecurity readiness assessments for Arizona small businesses. azmep.com
  • CISA Region 9: Phoenix field office serves Arizona, providing cybersecurity advisories and incident response at no cost.
  • Arizona Defense Support: The Arizona Commerce Authority connects defense contractors with state incentives and federal contracting opportunities.

CMMC Compliance: What Defense Contractors Need to Know

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program requires defense contractors to meet cybersecurity standards before winning CUI contracts.

CMMC Phase 2 Update

DoD suspended the CMMC Phase 2 third-party (C3PAO) certification requirement on July 13, 2026, pending a program review: there is no confirmed enforcement date at this time. Phase 1 self-assessment against all 110 NIST SP 800-171 controls remains mandatory now.

  • NIST SP 800-171: The foundation of CMMC Level 2. Covers 110 security controls across 14 domains.
  • Gap Assessment: Identifies which controls your organization does not yet meet and ranks them by severity.
  • CGA Grant: in-kind professional assessment at no cost. Apply now.
